Latch Project – Custom Handmade Tattoo Machine Hardcore Irons Pirate Packer

This is NOT unusual around here… at Hardcore Irons we make Handmade, Custom Tattoo Machines Made in Switzerland.

Welcome to the „Latch Project“, a really unique, one of a kind tattoo machine.

This door latch is from the 40‘s, handmade from raw steel, cut and welded by hand.
My job was to repurpose this latch and hand wrench (70‘s) into a kick ass „Hardcore Iron“…

The hardest part of this project was getting the old paint off, filing, wire wheel and sandblasting was needed, two coats of lead based paint over 80 years old.

Next up was welding the wrench to the latch keeping the geometry perfect, what a fantastic match… more filing, sanding and sandblasting looking for small details and sharp edges.

Once the frame and springdeck were in place I welded on the „Latch“ , locked forever, permanently in position.

Final sandblasting and then off to get powder coated…
New York Black finish came out really sweet keeping it vintage.

The Hardcore Tattoo Machine Company loves Classic Tattoo Frames that work well. Using premium, 5mm thick, low carbon steel we design the frame from imagination or a pre existing design and include the best geometry possible to ensure you get a great Iron in your hands.

Once the pieces are cut we braze them together with Brass and then they hit the grinding wheels and filed by hand to perfection.

At Hardcore Irons, we try to repurpose all the scrap metal in our workshop to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Thanks for helping us save the world one small step at a time.
